'The NPA should be ready and re-enroll the matter' - Nel on Malema prosecution

Lobby group AfriForum says it's concerned the NPA says it needs until August to decide whether it will re-enroll it's case against Julius Malema for corruption and fraud charges.

On Thursday the group announced its plans to pursue a private prosecution against the EFF leader.

The group's Head of Private Prosecutions , Gerrie Nel says the decision came after writing to the NPA to inquire about when they were planning to prosecute , since one of Malema's co-accused, who claimed to be ill at the time, appeared now to be in good health.

Malema and two others were accused of unlawfully securing a tender in Limpopo and subsequently accepting bribes to award subcontracts.

The NPA in response has said it needs until August to decide whether they will prosecute or not.

I am very concerned about that because the matter was struck off the roll because one of the co-accused was not fit to proceed with the trial ,so all I need to ask is, is the accused now ready proceed? Is he well enough?

Gerrie Nel, Head of Private Prosecutions at AfriForum

I find it very difficult that they are saying they are reviewing their decision because they had a prosecutor appointed.

Malema has hit back at AfriForum, saying that he is not afraid of the group, calling them racist.
