Mahikeng residents took to the streets last week over the lack of service delivery, calling for North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo to resign. The protests have also resulted in major disruption of the supply of medicines to the area

In a media briefing, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi highlighted that Mahikeng Provincial Hospital has been placed under the operation and care of the military who have been able to deliver 24 babies over the last 24 hours and also operated on civilians.
Currently, the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital is been run by the defence force. They have been sent about seven doctors there who are present and nine more will be sent later on in the day. 40 nurses from the Defence Force are also present there and about 14 more will be sent.— Phelani Phakgadi, EWN reporter
