News24 Political Editor, Mahlatse Mahlase, says removing a premier of a province is a specific and difficult thing to do.
The North West province has been experiencing a series of protests as residents call for premier Supra Mahumapelo to resign.
The African National Congress has been discussing the issue to find a solution.
Speaking on the Political Desk, Mahlase says because the motion of no confidence against Mahumapelo is not going ahead, the ANC is having to act.
I have been speaking to a lot of NWC and NEC members and many of them are saying; you know at the way things are looking is either there is a special NWC to deal with this matter or they call a special NEC to actually respond to the crisis.— Mahlatse Mahlase, News24 Political Editor
It is deepening, we have seen the violence spread and the people are threatening that there could be a provincial shut down by Wednesday if Mahumapelo is not removed.— Mahlatse Mahlase, News24 Political Editor
Mahlase says inside the ANC it's still being looked between the prism of those that supported Cyril Ramaphosa and those that supported Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. She further says they expect the battle lines to be drawn when the matter comes to the NEC.
