Bongani Bingwa speaks to Natasha Marrian, Political Editor at Business Day.

Political Editor at Business Day Natasha Marrian says the ongoing unrest in the North West should be cause for concern as the African National Congress (ANC) prepares for the 2019 national elections.

The province has been hit by a series of protests and is experiencing leadership disputes amid growing calls for Premier Supra Mahumapelo to step down.

Marrian says support for the ANC in the North West has been on a decline.

The ANC between 2011 and 2016, lost 15 percentage points in the electoral performance in the North West.

Natasha Marrian, Political Editor at Business Day

For the ANC in the North West support has been declining consistently from 2009 and generally the trend with national elections follows closely the trend for the previous local election.
