Pam Golding has apologised for a racist response to an inquiry about a property available for rent in White River, Mpumalanga.
Sifiso Masilela posted a screen grab of a conversation he’d had via text message with an estate agent, asking to view the apartment. When Mr Masilela identified himself, the agent said the owner was looking for a white tenant.
CEO of Pam Golding Property Group, Andrew Golding says there was a breakdown in company procedure and that the matter is being investigated.
We view it in the most serious light. There was a breakdown in the procedures of the office and we are conducting a full investigation at the moment.— Andrew Golding, CEO of Pam Golding Property Group
We absolutely don't condone any kind of discrimination.— Andrew Golding, CEO of Pam Golding Property Group
Golding says the agent, who was an intern, had not been sufficiently briefed in terms of the policy and procedures of the company.
The property was advertised and then in April when a different agent [the intern] took over the mandate, the landlord decided at that stage to verbally impose a restriction on the kind of tenant that the the landlord was looking for. I am not blaming the intern, the problem lies with the management of the office.— Andrew Golding, CEO of Pam Golding Property Group
We are extremely sorry that this has happened and want to apologise to everybody that has been impacted by this. I have left him [Masilela] a message and am hoping to speak to him myself.— Andrew Golding, CEO of Pam Golding Property Group
