Still a long way to go to achieve rights of LGBTI people in SA - SAHRC

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community in South Africa continues to be marginalised, despiter progressive legislation.

Today the world observes the International Day against homophobia, transphobia and biphobia.

The SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) says LGBTI people in the country face discrimination and marginalisation on daily basis - in their communities, at work and at home.

The commission's Gift Kgomosotho says homophobia and hate crimes are not condemned as strongly as racism.

Kgomosotho says there is still a long way to go to achieve equality and affirm the right of LGBTI people.
