Reading & writing as freedoms of expression need to be protected - Hlubi Mboya

Actress and radio personality Hlubi Mboya chats about her role as the ambassador for the Nelson Mandela Library Project.

Mboya says that as a child, she had a very privileged background. That was actually the starting point in my journey to giving back says the actress.

I know we’re living in a hysterical time filled with negativity but I try not be a cynic says Mboya. She adds that one of her aspirations in life is to become a writer because reading is part of her life.

Reading and writing is a freedom of expression and those expressions have to be protected.

Mboya says that they’re very specific about the schools they sponsor. She adds that communities need to have the Soul Buddyz system because kids tend to perform better with it in place.

With everything that’s going on with women abuse, rape and child abuse we have to have the buy-in of the men.

The Nelson Mandela Library Project is geared to change communities and ensure that library facilities are accessible says Mboya. These libraries have affected communities in a positive way and facilitators have seen a drop in teenage pregnancies, a lower HIV rate and an increase in pupils staying in school.
