The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it’s made some progress in its preparations for next year’s national and provincial elections.
The commission, on Tuesday, briefed Parliament’s home affairs committee on its readiness for the polls.
It says a date will be announced at some point between February and March next year.
Parliamentary reporter Gaye Davis has the details.
Glen Mashinini says that the IEC will be meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday, but he says they are working between the 8th of May and the 7th of August, that is what they are planning for.

The big question of the IEC has been the constitutional court imposing a deadline at the end of June for it to properly record voters addresses, according to Granville Abrahams of the IEC, they have made substantial progress but he says last week, they launched an application for the constitutional court to extend the deadline by 17 months.
