Drought-stricken CPT to host global climate change conference

The 5th International Climate Change Adaptation Conference is coming to Cape Town in June, welcoming over 1 000 scientists, practitioners, business leaders and policymakers from around the world.

The conference connects experts from various industries to discuss the effects of climate change and how best to tackle them, as well as creating a platform for learning.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, director at African Climate and Development Initiative, Prof Mark New says the conference will provide an opportunity for sharing knowledge and experience.

We are trying to bring together a growing community of people who are concerned about the risks climate change presents , share the knowledge and experience and research on how to best respond to the challenges like drought or food security.

Prof Mark New, director at African Climate and Development Initiative

This conference is about how we understand the implications of climate change, but most of all what we need to do about it in terms of building agriculture practices that are able to cope with this kind of stress on our socio-economic systems.

Prof Mark New, director at African Climate and Development Initiative
