152 cash-in-transit heists recorded this year alone

The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) says it has recorded 152 cash-in-transit this year alone.

Multiple heists have been reported over the last month, with the latest incident in the Eastern Cape - the van escaped an attack by armed men during the attempted heist near Kinkelbos on Tuesday night.

SABRIC CEO Kalyani Pillay says incidents have increased quite significantly.

We just had another one a few hours ago.

The perpetrators are extremely confident, they obviously have access to information that enables them to do their planning and execute these attacks.

Kalyani Pillay, SABRIC CEO

We, during last year, didn't see many arrests. We have been working very closely with the police, we still continue to do so. We are pretty optimistic at the moment.
