Sassa puts bogus pay points rumours to rest

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has dismissed rumours that pay points will be phased-out by August this year.

A bogus SMS has been circulated misinforming grant beneficiaries about the system.

Sassa Head of Communications, Paseka Letsatsi joined Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive for more clarity on the matter.

The Whatsapp message which has been circulating is fake.

When beneficiaries come to a pay point every month, what we are doing is a card swap. We are getting rid of the old white Sassa card into the new yellowish Sassa/Sapo card. This new card has got various benefits. Beneficiaries can also change their cards at our Sassa office or post offices. This particular process is going to unfold until September.
