The Western Cape government is working on a plan to protect the bee population in the province.
Bee populations across the world are under threat. In South Africa, more than 50 crops are reliant on insect pollination.
Local government has collaborated with bee associations in the Western Cape in order to implement a strategy, explains Economic Opportunities MEC Alan Winde.
The strategy will look at bee forage, research needs and industry regulations among strategic solutions, Winde says.
