Mayor Mashaba explains COJ budget review

Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says the city's new budget should be approved by next week.

Mashaba on Monday morning tried to convince city council members why it's necessary to increase rates and taxes as proposed in his budget plan.

The R59 billion budget was presented last week with some rejection to the proposed tariff increases.

After discussions, Mashaba says the city has agreed to reduce an initial water tariff hike of 14.2% to 13% and that electricity will go up by 7.1%.
