[LISTEN] Nzimande says RAF board must resign - Portfolio Committee on Transport

Transport Minister Blade Nzimande wants to speed up a process that will ensure the ushering in of a new board of the Road Accident Fund (RAF), says Chairperson of The Portfolio Committee on Transport, Dikeledi Magadzi.

Nzimande briefed the committee on Tuesday, on the various entities in his department which include the RAF, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa and the Airports Company of South Africa.

Speaking to MPs , Nzimande said the bad blood and infighting on the board, which currently has five vacancies, spilt over into Parliament.

Magadzi joined Karima on the Karima Brown Show, to share more details on the briefing.

The Road Accident Fund board came to the portfolio committee meeting some time in March and the cat fighting that you could see between members of the board was very glaring and very visible.

Dikeledi Magadzi, Chairperson of The Portfolio Committee on Transport

We are sort of satisfied with the work that they are doing but there is a lot of cracks where the money goes in and therefore a need for a forensic investigation. In totality we could see that this is a board which will never be able to deliver on its mandate, the way it was a tit for tat between some members of the board.

Dikeledi Magadzi, Chairperson of The Portfolio Committee on Transport

We are happy because the minister has since said the board must resign, failing which, he will have to act and be able to dismiss the board.
