[WATCH] 'Floyd Shivambu is clearly racist and misogynistic'

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) deputy president Floyd Shivambu has received backlash for objecting to Treasury’s deputy director-general Ismail Momoniat's presence at a finance committee meeting and reportedly calling him "un-African".

Shivambu and his party have accused Momoniat of undermining African leadership and assigning all the powers of National Treasury to himself.

While his statements are viewed as being racist by some, he has denied this.

Joanne Joseph shared her take on the matter.

The man is clearly racist and misogynistic – he’s called a woman a “white bitch’’ before and he’s obviously violent – we saw him try to throttle a journalist just going about his job in the parliamentary precinct. Now he’s confirmed our suspicions about his discriminatory behavior by turning his sights on National Treasury’s Deputy Director-General, Ismail Momoniat.

...the sweeping generalisations and racial stereotyping that occur in his statement are patently out of kilter for an educated man.
