'Public officials seem to think they can treat Parliament with contempt'

Members of Parliament in the Justice Portfolio Committee were left fuming after Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane requested the late postponement of a planned meeting due to a 'family emergency'.

Mkhwebane was due to appear on Wednesday to explain to MPs the policy around the appointment of a special advisor to her office.

Unfortunately it is a matter that seems to be happening more and more.

Breytenbach says this is the second time the committee is deliberating whether Khwebane is fit to hold office.

You need a big majority in the assembly to pass a vote of no confidence in her.
