State withdraws fraud, corruption case against Khomotso Phahlane

The State has withdrawn the case against former acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane and two others after being denied an application to postpone the case for three months.

Eyewitness news senior reporter Barry Bateman says in March it was placed on record that when the case returned to court the State would be ready to set a trial date.

What we heard today from the State is that unfortunately, they say the investigation case expanded. There are three forensic reports that are outstanding and there could be more accused that could be added to the case.

The State said they wanted a three-month postponement in order to wrap up those particular aspects while the defence objected to this.

Bateman says the court agreed with the defence, citing that the State might still not be ready by the end of the three months they are asking for.
