All eyes on Durban High Court ahead of Zuma's appearance

Former president Jacob Zuma is expected to appear in the Durban High Court on Friday.

This comes after the NPA rejected a request by Zuma's lawyers to withdraw the case, pending the outcome of a separate legal challenge about his legal fees.

Zuma will face his criminal trial unless the court rules that it can be postponed, reports EWN's Qaanitah Hunter.

Hunter says the court proceedings on Friday will depend on the strategy of Zuma's legal defence.

The NPA in KZN says prosecutors are ready to put Zuma on trial as early as 12 November.

Zuma is expected to use his court appearance on Friday to mobilise support and gain public sympathy, Hunter reports.

She predicts that there will be more action and "fireworks" outside court than inside the actual precinct.

The NPA are anticipating that Jacob Zuma's legal team will make an application to the court for a permanent stay in the prosecution.

ANC KZN chairperson Sihle Zikalala says there are going to be some ANC members there in their personal capacity. He says he can't stop them from going.

In March, prosecutions boss Shaun Abrahams announced the NPA would pursue the case against Zuma.

Abrahams told the public that there is a reasonable prospect of a successful prosecution.
