Overstaffed Eskom refuses unions call for wage hike

Trade unions representing Eskom employees have threatened industrial action against Eskom for its refusal to increase wages.

According to deputy editor at Financial Mail, Sikonathi Mantshantsha, the trade unions are demanding a 15% wage hike for the year.

He says Eskom currently employees 16 000 workers more than it should, produces the same amount of electricity as 12 years ago, and yet consumers pay five times more than they did then.
