[LISTEN] Time to 'move on' from Shivambu-Momoniat incident: Yunus Carrim

Chairperson of Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance Yunus Carrim says it's high time people moved on from the Floyd Shivambu-Ismail Momoniat incident.

He says people must instead learn from it.

Earlier this week the EFF Chief Whip questioned the presence of the National Treasury deputy director general at a Parliamentary committee meeting. Carrim then criticised Shivambu for allegedly calling Momoniat 'un-African'.

Shivambu later wrote to Carrim to inquire as to his relationship with Momoniat.

This recent focus on me and my relationship with Mr Momoniat is also based on some racial consideration. Does it follow that people from the same racial background are inevitably friends and share the same values and views?

Carrim says all political parties should avoid racial populism.

If you become a racial entrepreneur and you mobilise around race, the society is fragile and highly divided along racial and class lines. It will assume a momentum that will swallow all of us including the racial entrepreneurs.
