[LISTEN] I never said the health system has collapsed - Health Ombud

Health Ombud Professor Malegapuru Makgoba says his comments on the country's health system may have been misrepresented during an interview last week.

Professor Makgoba says he made his comments based on facts and observations that the health system is collapsing not that it has collapsed.

I used that word very carefully and as part of a process. I did not go to the interview to do a performance assessment of the minister.

READ: Health care system IS in distress, but NOT collapsing - Health Minister

Now I understand that the comment is being used almost as a performance assessment of the minister and I never personalised my assessment of the system with the person of the minister.

Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, Health Ombud

Professor Makgoba says it is an exaggeration that the situation at the Tower Hospital in Fort Beaufort Eastern Cape is said to be another Life Esidemeni.

WATCH: Is Health Minister waiting for full crisis before he acts?

It's far from being a Life Esidimeni, I'm still continuing my investigation.
