Parliament was a little bit lonely - Lindiwe Mazibuko

Former Democratic Alliance (DA) parliamentary leader Lindiwe Mazibuko is on a mission to make sure young people and women are represented in public service.

She has launched the Apolotical Academy, a leadership programme that is going to be targeted towards helping ethical, transformational young people and women transition from various sectors into politics and government.

She sat down with Azania Mosaka for this week's Friday Profile to talk about the initiative and how her programme plans to change the narrative about public service.

We want to find ways to connect you with the kind of people who will support your career because they understand your intentions are good. Every government institution has good people in it.

Lindiwe Mazibuko, Former DA parliamentary leader

Speaking on her own journey and navigating the political space as one of the youngest members of Parliament, Mazibuko says more can be done to introduce young people into government.

It was a little bit lonely, I hated being the only one. One of the things I am passionate about is making sure that public service is the kind of place where people who are young, people who are women, have different voices, are actually represented in spaces of leadership and are able to make inputs in a way that drives decision making.
