MEC plans to work with waste pickers in Gauteng in helping with recycling

Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Infrastructure Services Nico De Jager says waste pickers play a very important role in the City of Joburg.

So what we need to do, is we need to accommodate the recyclers instead of seeing them as a menace and find ways in which we can rather incorporate them into our plan.

What we are doing at the City of Johannesburg side and part of the management and separation of source programmes that we are introducing. We are also calling on PikitUp that as we are refurbishing our dumping sites, we make provisions to accommodate the waste pickers to successfully store their trollies.
