'DA is telling lies about what is happening in Knysna'

Mike Hampton from the Love Knysna movement is on a mission to expose what he calls rampant corruption in the DA-run Knysna municipality.

Knysna has been embroiled in a mayorship battle after councillors voted with the opposition to remove the mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies replacing her with Mark Willemse.

The DA has been trying, with no luck, to remove Willemse as mayor.

Councillors are alleging that there's been deep rooted corruption and maladministration going on in Knysna, which the national leadership has been ignoring for a long time.

The DA is absolutely lying to the media and to the public about what is going on and the reason for that is because they are deeply involved in the corruption that now implicates the leadership.

Hampton says the DA has taken him to court many times as a way of silencing him from speaking out against the corruption going on in Knysna.

He says they have threatened to jail him, the latest being a week ago.

Helen Zille is very much aware of what is going on in Knysna through email conversations as well as face to face meetings with me.

She allowed two people who I gave evidence of corruption against to become councillors a month after I gave the evidence to her.

Hampton alleges that Integrated Strategic Development Framework tender was given to people with a conflict of interest and the DA knew about it but went ahead anyway.

He says the property consortium did not win the tender, but it was given it to them despite not qualifying.

Treasury and local government were forced to do an investigation, they then buried the reports. MEC Anton Bredell green-lit the tender and the tender people were given more money than it was stipulated.

Even last week I received a letter from the Western Cape government threatening to sue me ... the only way they can control the situation is to cover it up.
