BeMyEyes app helps the blind get another set of eyes

BeMyEyes is an app that connect blind people to sighted volunteers to help them with short, simple tasks.

The app was created by Hans Jørgen Wiberg after he was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that makes it hard to see things with peripheral vision.

Speaking to CapeTalk's Kieno Kammies, Hans was about to take over his parent's farm when he found out about his condition. He says it was a difficult time but he has managed to pick himself up and made something of his life.

He came up with an idea for an app...

With the app we can help blind people across the globe... We have 182 languages, something we are super proud about.

Hans Jørgen Wiberg, founder and creator

To date we have almost 1.3 million volunteers across the globe and 82 000 blind users.

According to Hans the app lends the volunteer's eyes to a blind person in need through a live video connection or be assisted by the network of sighted users.

The app can be downloaded on Play Store and other platforms. Blind users can make use of the app right away after downloading it, says Hans.
