Take note! Sarb launches Madiba commemorative banknotes and coins

The SA Reserve Bank (SARB) is launching a limited edition of commemorative banknotes as part of the Mandela centenary celebrations.

The official launch of the banknotes will be on July 13 for Nelson Mandela’s birth centenary.

Deputy Governor for South African Reserve Bank Francois Groepe says the notes will be issued in circulation for the next six months and will co-circulate with the existing series of notes.

This is to mark the centenary of the birth of Madiba, obviously because he was the first Head of State in our democratic South Africa.

Although launching officially next month, test packs of the commemorative notes have been made available in advance to the cash industry.

In order to avoid unnecessary speculations and confusions we have decided to relase the images ahead of the launch on Friday 13 July.
