The Considered View

The #ConsideredView - Hong Kong protests

The umbrella protests, so called as protesters in Hong Kong use umbrellas to protect themselves from pepper spray have been on the streets since the weekend following an announcement about changes to the 2017 election process.

The #OccupyCentral call has seen residents from all sectors of Hong Kong society take to the streets in what has been for the most part peaceful sit-ins around government buildings.

Today is China's National Day and has seen even more join the protests.

Will Beijing concede to the protesters or will the situation turn into a conflict. Stephen Grootes weighs in on what might happen next.
