ANC elects Job Mokgoro as new North West premier

Supra Mahumapelo is expected to resign from his position as an ordinary member of the North West legislature to make way for the province's new premier Job Mokgoro.

The African National Congress (ANC) confirmed Mokgoro's appointment on Thursday.

The 70-year-old served as director-general in the province and head of the National School of Government.

Eyewitness News reporter Clement Manyathela has more details.

A simple google search will tell you how strict he was, how he really pushed people to do their job and that is why they [the ANC] think he is qualified.

The next thing to look at is who is going to resign. They have to make space for Job Mokgoro to be sworn in as an ordinary member of the legislature. The ANC has suggested that Supra Mahumapelo should be the one to resign.
