'We need to work hard to get SOEs to be sustainable'

Managing Director at Banking Association of South Africa Cas Coovadia says they had a meeting with the Minister of Public Enterprise Pravin Gordhan and the Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Nene to discuss governance issues in SOEs and some of the management changes.

Significant harm has been caused in the last few years. We need to work harder as communities to get these SOEs in a sustainable position.

Cas Coovadia, Managing Director at Banking Association of South Africa

As that is done, SOEs will need liquidity, will need to see how they are restructured for sustainability.

This initiative is to see how in this industry we can begin to put in place mechanisms that will enable banks individually to actually continue with lending.
