Health Feature: The pros and cons of intermittent fasting

In the health feature, registered dietitian Kim Hoffmann chats about some benefits and concerns surrounding intermittent fasting.

Hoffmann says that intermittent fasting occurs when someone restricts their food for a certain period of time – then eats again.

She adds that restricting food could either be in its entirety where only fluids are allowed, or some calories are consumed at that given time.

Some studies are saying that there are benefits such as fat loss, improved health (diabetes and heart issues), and there’s also some studies show increased longevity. We must remember that this evidence is very limited.

Hoffmann says that some people find it easier to fast as opposed to calories restricted diets.

She adds that intermittent fasting is such a broad aspect because there are so many different ways to do it.
