FUL want contempt of court proceedings brought against NPA's Abrahams and Jiba

Civil society group, Freedom Under Law plans to bring contempt of court proceedings against National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head, Shaun Abrahams and his former deputy, Nomgcobo Jiba.

The organisation accused the pair of contravening a court judgment that prohibits Jiba from reporting for duty or entering the NPA offices, while she appeals the case around her being struck off the roll of advocates.

Freedom Under Law, CEO Nicole Fritz says the State Attorney has confirmed that Jiba visited the premises three times this year.

We had various reports that she had visited the National Prosecuting Authority several times in the last six months, we then wrote to the NPA asking for clarity.

We received a letter from the State Attorney on Friday conceding that these visits had in fact occurred, three in April, May and June of this year, and that they had occurred at the authorisation of and the request of Shaun Abrahams.

They said she was there to collect personal documents from the office, make financial discolusures and discuss a case for which she had historical knowledge. That last would seem to then breach the order again in that she is prohibited from discussing any cases pending before the prosecuting authority.
