'By 2021 we will be paying R850 million per day in interest'

Columnist Peter Bruce says there are so many uncertainties and so little leadership currently in the country around things like land and the economic policy.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Political desk, Bruce says South Africa yet again finds itself in a situation where it doesn't have enough friends in the world.

Trevor Manuel left us when he was last finance minister with a budget surplus. Now we are in a situation where in 2021 we will be paying R850 million in per day in interest alone on the debts that we have raised.

Peter Bruce, Columnist

That is largely because of the money Jacob Zuma spent on expanding the public service. Obviously, a lot of money was wasted. We borrowed our way into a hole.

Peter Bruce, Columnist

Bruce says the infighting in the ruling party is not helping President Ramaphosa to make firm decisions.

He is in a real jam. He's able to start this hearing and that hearing and it's not bad but he can't stand up and say we are going to do XY and Z by Friday.
