Motoring: As petrol goes up on Wednesday, how can you drive more efficiently?

The price of petrol is set to go up again on Wednesday.

Motorists will pay between 23 cents and 26 cents more for a litre of petrol, while diesel will cost between 24 cents and 26 cents more per litre.

Azania spoke to technical editor at CAR Magazine, Nicol Louw to find out how you can stretch your tank of petrol.

If you talk about fuel efficiency, you need to make sure that your car is completely serviced because if it is serviced, the engine will run efficiently. It will use the fuel better and you will get much more value for your money.

Your tyre pressure is very important, if your tyre pressure is low there is more resistance to driving and you use more fuel.

Aerodynamics play a big role. If you have any of these roof racks on your car, take them off if you are not using them. If you have any extra weight in your car, remove that.

If you lower your speed by 10km per hour your will save a lot of fuel. Steady driving at a lower speed, that is the best for fuel consumption.
