IFP want fuel price levies suspended

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says it will write to National Finance Minister, Nhlanhla Nene and Energy Minister, Jeff Radebe, to request the suspension of the general fuel and Road Accident levies on the petrol price per litre.

This, according to the party, would possibly bring down the cost of fuel to just over R11, 00 per litre and stabilise the monthly adjustments to the fuel price.

IFP national spokesperson, Mkhuleko Hlengwa explains.

The general levies themselves including the road accident fund constitute about R5,30 of the overall price per litre. If you take that R5,30 out you should see the price of petrol drop.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, IFP spokesperson

We are aware of the reality that suspending the levies will takeaway something from the fiscus. Government must belt tighten, cut costs....we have one of the biggest cabinets in the world, this would be a good time for President Cyril Ramaphosa to begin the process of rationalizing cabinet.

Mkhuleko Hlengwa, IFP spokesperson

Hlengwa says they have also asked that the matter be debated in Parliament.
