[LISTEN] 'Lennit Max effectively disowned the DA' - Bonginkosi Madikizela

Western Cape Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Bonginkosi Madikizela insists that Lennit Max should have informed Democratic Alliance (DA) leadership about his appointment as as special advisor to Police Minister Bheki Cele.

Madikizela has called on Max to resign from the party, saying it is the honorable thing to do.

He says the party leadership was unaware of Max's decision to take up the position.

All of us heard about his position in the media which is very concerning.

Referring to a press briefing held by Max on Monday, Madikizela says there is a clear intent to leave the party.

The fact that you are going to serve another sphere does not mean you must disown your party, at that particular press briefing, Max effectively disowned the DA.

Max said he is not yet a member of the ANC, which indicates that there is an intention to be a memebr of the ANC in future.

Meanwhile , former Western Cape premier Ebrahim Rasool has criticized the DA, saying the party is in a deep organisational crisis and alienating its members.

I think the leadership of the DA particularly in the Western Cape needs to understand why they have been able to alienate their own members.

Ebrahim Rasool, former Western Cape premier

If you cannot allow one of your members to go and help fight the serious battle against crime in the Western Cape, why did you make him the head of a standing committee on cultural affairs which is important but not his expertise.
