[LISTEN] Taps are freezing in snow-covered Sutherland

Several cold fronts sweeping through the country have sent the mercury diving, with below freezing conditions and snow in some parts of the country.

One of those places is Sutherland in the Northern Cape which has experienced more than a dusting of the white stuff.

Jurg Wagenar is the owner of Kambro Kind Guest House and says South Africans have been flocking to Sutherland to experience the snow.

Read: Oh snap! It's cold...

As I'm speaking to you the weather is currently -8, it's not that cold - it's all in the mind.

Jurg Wagenar, Owner of Kambro Kind Guest House

Yesterday we went out for star gazing and you could hear your boots crunching on the snow and the sky is so clear you can see the stars.

We haven't had good rain for a long time and now the flowers are smiling, you can hear the birds singing in the morning... nature for me is something so positive, no matter what the circumstances are they are always happy and that is something we all can learn from.

Jurg Wagenar, Owner of Kambrokind Guest House

Even though it may look lovely, Jurg says there is a downside to the snow.

The freezing temperatures means that the taps freeze early in the morning.

Wagenar says they always advise guests to take a bath at night and leave a bit of water in a bucket for a cup of coffee in the morning.
