Labour analyst and columnist at Fin24 and City Press, Terry Bell says the Public Servants Association (PSA) is well within its rights to demand separate wage negotiations to those of the unions representing public servants.
The PSA has stood its ground, saying that Sassa employees are not public servants therefore should be treated differently.
Social Development Minister Susan Shabangu approached the Labour Court in order to get an urgent interdict to stop Sassa employees from striking.
The court on Wednesday ordered that both Social Development and PSA return to the negotiating table within a week and that employees return to work immediately.

PSA is demanding a salary hike of between 13% and 15% for its workers and Bell is speculating that they might get a 10% to 1 year deal.
According to Bell, if the minister goes back to the negotiating table with PSA and grants them a better deal that could cause problems with other unions who have already signed the 7% wage increment deal.
