Child (3) dies after falling into pit toilet in Limpopo

CAPE TOWN - A three-year-old child has died after falling into a pit toilet in Limpopo.

The tragedy struck on Wednesday after three-year-old Monono Omari went to a relative’s house across the street from where he lives in Moletjie Ditenteng.

The child’s aunt apparently left him to relieve himself in the toilet outside but grew worried after she realised she hadn’t seen him for some time.

Police spokesperson Constable Maphure Manamela says the child’s aunt reported the matter to police after her search proved unsuccessful.

“Circumstances leading to this tragic death are still under police investigation. Meanwhile, the provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Nneke Ledwaba, who is saddened by the incident, has warned parents and guardians to be vigilant at all times to avoid these kinds of incidents from reoccurring.”

This is the second such incident in Limpopo making news headlines.

In 2014, five-year-old Michael Komape fell into a pit toilet and drowned at Mahlodumela Primary School.

His family is seeking nearly R3 million in damages in a matter currently before a court.
