The African National Congress (ANC) National Working Committee's been wrapping up the appointment of Integrity Commissioners.
The party also wants to set up a task-team that will finalise the committee's terms of reference.
Commissioners appointed include George Mashamba (chair), Bridgette Mabandla (deputy chairperson), Sophie de Bryun, Sindiso Mfenyana, Sue Rabkin, Smangaliso Mkhatshwa, Essop Jassat, Cyril Janjies, and Andrew Mlangeni.
EWN reporter Qaanitah Hunter says George Mashamba is the chairperson of this Integrity Commission, he replaces Andrew Mlangeni who was the previous chair of the Integrity Commission.
His deputy would be Bridget Mabandla who is the former Justice Minister under the Thabo Mbeki administration. This team of Integrity Commissioners, they come together at a time where there is a bit of uncertainty over the role and scope of their work.— Qaanitah Hunter, EWN Reporter
She adds that when the Integrity Commision was formed in previous years, there was a grey area in how far they can go in pushing someone to be relieved of their duties within the ANC and in government based on their recommendation.
It was successful in the case of Marius Fransman but when they tabled a report about former president Jacob Zuma, he argued and his supporters argued at the time that they do not have any teeth and so that is why at the Nesrec Conference the ANC decided to have this discussion as to what is the perimeters of this commission.— Qaanitah Hunter, EWN Reporter
