Cope's Lekota calls for refugee camps in SA, says they're NOT xenophobic

With the 2019 general elections drawing closer, political parties will be making public their election manifestos and policy on various issues affecting South Africans.

Congress of the People leader, Mosiuoa Lekota, says refugee camps are the best way to deal with the influx of refugees into the country.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast Show, Lekota says those who were forced into exile during apartheid were never given government allocated housing.

There is huge penetration of foreigners who are doing trade in the townships who are not registered, who don't have VAT numbers and who are taking opportunities from our business people in this country.

Mosiuoa Lekota, Leader of the Congress of the People (COPE)

There is nothing xenophobic about refugee camps that's why the United Nations have a special provision for refugees.

The Hawks are complaining that these heists that are being carried out, people are doing them without wearing balaclavas and they don't put on gloves. You take their pictures you go and look you can't find them anywhere in the records of government.

Mosiuoa Lekota, Leader of the Congress of the People (COPE)

You take the fingerprints, you can't find them anywhere. That tells you the country is open and people are coming in and doing as they please.
