The Southern Africa Labour and Development Research Unit (Saldru) has developed an income comparison tool to help South Africans understand inequality better and where they fit in the income distribution.
Calculating your income and the number of people in your household, the tool produces a graph and shows you where you fall in comparison with others.
Saldru's Director Professor Murray Leibbrandt shares more on the application.
There is also a question on the tool that asks you where you think you sit, it is a dialogue with yourself. We are not saving the data, it is confidential information. It is a prompt to actually not so much guilt people but you need to know where you are cause you need to know how life is going for other South Africans.— Professor Murray Leibbrandt, Director at Saldru
