Gauteng has been in the epicentre of the cash-in-transit heist, with almost a heist a day on average at one point.
But the Hawks have responded to this. The Sunday Times reported that they are looking for the heist kingpin, the man behind this wave of recent heists.
Wellington 'Bibi' Ceneda from Tembisa is the alleged kingpin behind the heists in Gauteng, the North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Hawks Gauteng head Major-General Prince Mokotedi says Cenede has been involved in a number of heists.

He has been engaged in criminal activities from way back and there is quite a number of other none cash-in-transit cases like business robberies, attempted murder and hijacking.— Major-General Prince Mokotedi, Hawks Gauteng head
Mokotedi says there have been many instances where he evaded them and the Hawks missed an opportunity to arrest him.
