Booming economy… cheap beer… great food… Beira is where it’s at, but the taxes!

Distinguished Africa correspondent Lee Kasumba is in Mozambique’s central city of Beira, exploring its business opportunities and investment potential.

Click or tap here to follow her journey.

Kasumba’s first impression of port-city Beira was of a “cosy, spacious” city with a lot of construction and informal trading, day and night.

She also mentioned the glaring influence of China.

Other interesting things about Beira:

  • Beer in Beira is cheaper than tea.

  • Seafood is cheap, and delicious.

  • In 1998 the port processed 30 000 containers, it now does 240 000 per year.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Kasumba.

She met with the owner of the best restaurant in Beira and a leading IT company.

Kasumba also discussed income tax and VAT in Mozambique.

For more detail; listen to the interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for quotes from it).
