It is understood that 17 people were in the vehicle at the time of the attack.

Speaking to Clement Manyathela on The Midday Report, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Police Francois Beukman says they believe that it is quite critical for the Saps to focus on these incidents.

Apart from the matter in KZN, there was an incidence at the end of May where 10 taxi drivers were killed.

Francois Beukman, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee

This is really a huge concern for us that there is this kind of violence in this industry and also the loss of innocent people.

Francois Beukman, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee

So we believe that the National Commissioner and the team should deploy specialised units and we welcome this pact that crime and intelligence are working on this case.
