Men seen running from scene of Chatsworth mosque fire

Police are investigating the cause of a fire which spread through the Masjid-e-Mukhtar mosque in Croftdene‚ Durban on Wednesday morning.

This latest incident follows a spate of mosque attacks recently, and it's believed the fire may have been started deliberately.

Officers evacuated the parking lot of the mosque, declaring it a 'crime scene'.

A passing taxi driver had seen smoke billowing from the building, stopped and rushed in.

He and others managed to extinguish the blaze. The Moulana had been in the property, and he was also fighting the fire.

It's reported that several men were seen running from the mosque.

[they] vaulted a wall at the back of the building and fled...this a clue that it was definitely foul play in the setting of this fire.
