NPA rejects Thint's representation in the arms deal corruption trial

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed it has turned down representations by French arms company Thint and will proceed with the corruption case against it.

The company is accused of offering former president Jacob Zuma a half-a-million-rand a year bribe, in exchange for being shielded from arms deal investigations.

Arms deal activist, Terry Crawford-Browne explains Thint's role in the deal.

It played a hugely important role, together with other European governments, it put huge pressure on our government to buy warships and war planes it didn't need and closed their eyes to the exchange of bribes to achieve that purpose.

The French were anxious to have the investigation squelched. Now when the Seriti Commission was appointed - reluctantly by President Zuma because they took him to court - he reportedly phoned or called in the lawyer Ajay Sooklal and said 'don't tell the commission that the French were paying me until 2009'...so Ajay Sooklal has fallen out with the French company and is now spilling the beans.
