Khwezi play to hit the stage this weekend

There's just two days until the opening night of the much anticipated musical adaptation of Redi Thlabi's best-selling book KHWEZI…Say My Name.

It's been adapted for stage by multi-award-winning playwright and director Napo Masheane and is based on the tragic story of Fezekile Ntsukela Kuzwayo.

Actress Nompumelelo Mayiyane is set to play the main character Khwezi and will be performing alongside former Generations: The Legacy actor JT Medupe, who plays Jacob Zuma.

Mayiyane says South Africans got to know Khwezi through one event on her life the play doesn't focus solely on that.

[So that] you know more about her than just this specific event. I think as an actor there are a lot of things that I could relate to Fezekile. She was a woman who was full of life, many have described her as having a bubbly personality and these are all things I could definitely relate to.
