Once a year (since 2013) The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield wows listeners with an interview of supersaver Julia and her financial advisor Warren Ingram (he’s a regular on the show).

(Click here for an article with all the previous years’ interviews.)

Who would drive a Corsa Lite if they earned R1 million per year?

Julia would!

Although she has since upgraded to a Toyota Etios.

Julia invests a third of her income, always avoiding the trap of meeting a rising salary with more expenses.

Whitfield got her back into the studio to find out if she has managed to grow her already substantial nest egg even further.

Listen to the interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for quotes from it).

I’ve added some money. Not as much as previous years… but I haven’t stopped completely...

Julia

I’m not very flashy… slow and steady is my style… I don’t really have any regrets… carrying on over many years is how I’m going to be financially independent…

Julia

I think I’ll be financially independent by the time I am 40… I’m quite confident we’ll be financially independent in three or four years…

Julia

That car [Corsa Lite] cost too much to maintain…

Julia

I encourage every young person I meet to start the saving habit early… You don’t have to be fancy… you just need to be disciplined… then the power of compounding does the rest for you… If you invest in sensible funds that aren’t expensive…

Julia

More of the same [when asked what her strategy is going forward]…
