Alleged cash-in-transit heist kingpin nabbed

A Hawks intelligence operation has led to the arrest of a man believed to be behind at least 23 cash-in-transit heists.

Two weeks ago Gauteng Hawks head Major-General Prince Mokotedi named Wellington Cenenda from Tembisa as the alleged kingpin behind heists in Guateng, the North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Cenanda was apprehended in Bloemfontein on Thursday.

Spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi says investigations are still ongoing and more arrests will follow.

We are dealing with syndicate members who are well connected. It is not easy to police these kind of criminals, you have got different gangs. They may be coming from different countries.

Hangwani Mulaudzi, Hawks spokesperson

There is a lot of work that is being done from crime intelligence and we are happy with the progress.
