[LISTEN] City of CPT signs pledge to grow & transform media industry

The City of Cape Town says it’s committed to creating an enabling environment for every filmmaker, producer, service industry, animator, editor and set builder who is currently working or wishing to work in the City.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security at the City of Cape Town JP Smith says that they have acknowledged the importance of the media industry in the city.

Smith says that media industry has contributed R3.5 billion to the economy in 2015.

He adds that the industry has also created approximately 9500 jobs.

Collectively we’ve agreed that there are thing we can improve and things we can do better.

Tariffs have been frozen so we can reassert ourselves back into the industry says Smith.

He adds that they’ve signed a pledge to ensure that they’re committed to growing and transforming the media industry.

The 5 key pledge commitments include:

1. Collaboration

Commit to working together to build a thriving local film and media industry.

2. Fair business practice

Commit to charging reasonable and competitive rates, and practice ethical and fair business.

3. Transformation

Commit to helping with transformation to create a representative, fully inclusive and diversified industry.

4. Sustainability

Commit to water-wise and sustainable productions, and have respect for both residents and the environment.

5. Promotion

Commit to promoting Film Cape Town to create jobs and grow the economy.
